Sharon McNamara Black would like to invite you and your friends to her Settler's Cabin Studio for your own special painting retreat that fits your calendar. Guest's can choose the project or projects from one of her 250 original pattern designs. You can schedule your stay on weekdays or weekends for as many days as you desire. Up to four painting friends can stay comfortably in our modern one bedroom apartment which has a full kitchen so that you make yourselves at home during your retreat. Please call for information and to reserve your painting getaway today.

Our woodshop is here on the premises and you can have Marty create special wood projects for your painting pleasure. We can make special arrangements for prepping the surfaces ahead of your arrival, applying stain and finish coat and for shipping the pieces to you afterwards if you do not have room to take them with you. .

Baxter is located 9 mi or 14 kms from the south end of Barrie, Ontario where there is ample shopping and grocery stores, restaurants, cinemas, golfing, public beaches for swimming, boating and fishing. During the winter months there is ice fishing on the bay, skiing (cross-country and downhill), snowmobiling and public skating rinks.

If you are bringing a non-painter with you who wants to share your holiday, there is much for them to see and do. Baxter is located 55 mi or 88 kms from the Toronto International Airport. Car rental is available or you can make arrangements with us to be picked up from the airport and dropped off. If you wish to shop in the Cookstown Outlet Mall, we are 16 kms or 10 mi away and we are 33 mi or 53 kms to the largest amusement park in Canada or to the Vaughn shopping centre. We are 88 mi or 142 kms from the world seven wonders "Niagara Falls", (a 2½ hour trip by car), 19 mi or 30 kms from Wasaga Beach, the world’s longest freshwater beach (swimming, boating and fishing), and 26 mi or 42 kms from Blue Mountain Ski Resort (skiing, golfing, hiking the Blue Mountain trails and time-shares) at Collingwood. You can bet on the ponies and gamble at Georgian Downs, 9 mi or 14 kms away or head north 46 mi or 74 kms north to Casino Rama.
